About Ms. SchultzThis is my fourth year teaching at Imagine Schools. I grew up in Allen Park, Michigan and graduated from Western Michigan University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Biology and minor in Earth Science. I am currently attending Northern Arizona University to earn my Masters in Science Teaching. I love teaching science because you do not always have to be right the first time you try something; there is room for trial and error and this is how we learn. Understanding science is key to understanding the world around us and how it works. One of my most cherished science experiences was traveling to Belize for a Tropical Biology field course where I was able to learn about the ecosystems in the rainforest and coral reefs first hand.
I am big supporter of fine arts, I played in band from 4th grade throughout college. The best thing anyone ever told me in school was to join a club, sport, activity, etc., because you instantly have a group of friends who will be there for you, to encourage you, motivate you, cheer you up, or whatever you need! Get involved, I highly recommend it! I set high expectations and truly do believe that you get out of something what you put into it. I want all of my students to succeed and reach their goals, therefore I am always here to help, all you need to do is ask! Other things about me: I enjoy playing softball, bowling, swimming, and running. I have run 2 half marathons, a 10K, several 5k's and a handful of mud runs. Some of my favorite sports teams include the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers! I LOVE cats, (Tuzzi, my cat pictured) and get a good laugh out of corny science jokes! |

IGCSE Biology Examination
IGCSE Biology is composed of 3 different assessments, one of which is tested throughout the school year while the other two are given in May. 1. Coursework 20% of total available marks Students are tested on different laboratory skills and their knowledge of the science lab. Student will be required to keep a coursework portfolio in the classroom as this is an assessment piece that gets sent to Cambridge to be graded. Coursework portfolios will be completed during zero hour one week a month. The following skills will be assessed: C1 Skill: use techniques, apparatus, and materials (including the following of a sequence of instruction, where appropriate) C2 Skill: make and record observations and measurements C3 Skill: interpret and evaluate experimental observations and data C4 Skill: plan biological investigations, evaluate methods, and suggest improvements (including the selection of biological techniques, apparatus, and materials) 2. Multiple Choice Exam (Paper 1/2) 30% of total available marks Students have 45 minutes to complete 40 questions based on content learned throughout the year 3. Theory Exam (Paper 3/4) 50% of total available marks Students have 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete short answer questions about content learned through the year as well as interpret data The IGCSE Biology exam is offered in November as well as May. If students wish to retake the exam they may. Grades on the coursework component remain acceptable for 12 months after which they must be redone if students still want to re-test. Coursework can be redone for a higher score as well. In the Classroom, Preparing Students for IGCSE Because students are often learning IGCSE for the first time everything that we do in the classroom is from Cambridge. Bellwork questions and homework will often, if not always, be past paper questions (multiple choice or theory). These questions usually reappear on quizzes and tests so it is amazingly beneficial that students write down the bellwork questions and answers in their entirety as well as complete and study their homework and notes. AS Biology Examination
AS Biology is composed of 3 different assessments, Paper 1, 2, and 3. 1. Paper 1 Multiple Choice (31%) This paper consists of 40 multiple choice questions based on the AS syllabus. Candidates have 1 hour to complete these 40 questions based on content learned throughout the year. 2. Paper 2 AS Structured Questions (46%) This paper consists of a variable number of structured questions of variable mark value. All questions are based on the AS syllabus. Candidates have 1 hour and 15 minutes to answer all the questions on the question paper. 3. Paper 3 Advanced Practical Skills (23%) This practical paper consists of two approximately equal parts, one of which will require the use of a microscope with low-power and high-power objectives and an eye-piece graticule. Candidates will be allowed to use the microscope for a maximum of 1 hour. Candidates will be expected to show evidence of skill in the handling of familiar biological material. Where unfamiliar materials/techniques are required, full instruction will be given. Candidates have 2 hours to answer all questions on the question paper. The AS Biology exam is offered in November as well as May. If students wish to retake the exam they may.
